Play videos and media in documents and tasks

Paste a YouTube, Aparat, Figma, Loom, Miro or other supported link into a document or task description to show a live player or preview right there instead of a plain link.

A document full of links doesn't get read. Now, when you paste the address of a video or design on a line of its own, Taskie turns it into a player or preview, and readers can watch it without leaving the page.

How it works

  1. Copy the full address of the media.
  2. In a document or task description, create a new empty line.
  3. Paste the address there, on its own, with no other text on that line.
  4. The link immediately turns into a media card with a title and thumbnail.

If you paste the link in the middle of a sentence, it stays a regular text link. It only turns into a player when the address is the only thing on that line.

Supported services

  • Video: YouTube, Aparat, Vimeo, Loom
  • Design and collaboration: Figma, Miro, Excalidraw
  • Documents: Google Docs (plus Google Sheets and Slides)
  • Audio: Spotify, SoundCloud
  • Code: CodePen, CodeSandbox, GitHub Gist

Click to play

Media doesn't load right away. At first you only see a thumbnail and a play button, and the content loads when the reader clicks it. That's why even a document with ten videos opens quickly and doesn't use extra bandwidth.

Where it works

  • Document pages
  • Task descriptions
  • Anywhere else that uses the same editor

In PDF exports, the media's thumbnail and address are printed instead of the player.

A few use cases

  • Training document: put the training video at the top of the document so new members can watch it without going to another site.
  • Design task: paste the Figma file's address into the task description so the designer and developer always have the latest version of the design in front of them.
  • Bug report: add a recorded Loom video to the task so the steps to reproduce the problem are clear without a long explanation.
  • Brainstorming meeting: embed a Miro or Excalidraw board in the meeting document so the summary and the canvas stay together.

Access and privacy

  • Access is the source service's access: if your Figma file is private, the reader sees Figma's sign-in page. Taskie doesn't grant or remove access.
  • Nothing is preloaded: no connection is made to the outside service until someone clicks the media.
  • Only the listed services: other addresses, including ones that look like these services, become plain text links.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why didn't my link turn into a player? Either its service isn't in the list above, or the address wasn't the only thing on that line.
  • Can I turn a player back into a plain link? Yes. Delete the media card and write the address inside a sentence.
  • What about my own local video? Upload the video file like any other attachment. It's shown right there with the built-in player.
  • What about Taskie's own boards and diagrams? To insert whiteboards, mind maps and diagrams, see Embed boards and diagrams in documents.
