What's new in 2.8.0
Version 2.8.0 makes folders shared across the whole workspace, lets you move projects and folders by dragging, and makes working with the calendar, the Gantt chart and project statuses smoother.
Version 2.8.0 is above all about everyday work: folders are no longer personal and are now shared across the whole workspace, projects and folders can be moved by dragging them in the sidebar, drag and drop in the calendar is complete, subtasks have come to the Gantt chart, each project can have its own status list, and answered tickets close automatically.
Note: Some features depend on your workspace plan or your permission level. If you don't see an option, ask your workspace admin to check the related permission and plan.
Folders are shared across the workspace
Until now, a folder in the sidebar was visible to everyone, but only its creator could create projects in it, and everyone else got the message "Access to this area is restricted". Starting with this release, folders belong to the workspace.
- Create and move: any member who's allowed to create projects can create a project in any workspace folder, move projects between folders and change their order.
- Rename and delete: these stay with the folder's creator and workspace admins, so the shared structure doesn't get disrupted.
- Nested folders: you can move a folder under another folder or bring it back to the top level. Moving a folder into one of its own subfolders isn't allowed.
The guide to creating and organizing projects is in Create and structure projects.
Move projects and folders by dragging
- Between folders: drag a project out of one folder and drop it into another; the new location is saved right away.
- Collapsed folders: if you hold the pointer over a collapsed folder, it opens by itself so you can drop inside it.
- Error feedback: if a move isn't accepted, you see a message and the list returns to its previous state.
- Display order: at each level, subfolders are shown first and then projects; the same order applies on mobile.
Calendar: drag and drop is complete
- Follows the pointer: a task actually moves as you drag it, its time is kept, and the target days are highlighted.
- Undo: after you drop, a confirmation appears with an undo button, and if saving fails, the task returns to its previous day.
- Shorten and lengthen: grabbing a task's edge to change its length now works in every view.
- Click to open: a simple click on a task opens the details window again, and only a real drag turns into a move.
- Touch and scrolling: on touch screens, dragging a task doesn't interfere with scrolling the page, and the calendar scrolls by itself near the edges.
The full guide is in Calendar view.
Subtasks in the Gantt chart
Until now, the Gantt chart only showed top-level tasks. Now every task that has subtasks shows an expand toggle: each click adds one level of subtasks, and you can keep going to any depth. Subtask rows can be moved, shortened and lengthened like any other row and accept dependency arrows. The critical path and baselines are still calculated from top-level tasks. Guide: Gantt view.
The All tasks calendar
In the calendar view of the All tasks page, all tasks in the range are now shown, not just the first part of the list. Clicking a task opens the details window, and a task you create from a calendar day shows up on the same page immediately. The gallery view works the same way. Guide: The All tasks page.
Project statuses: inherited or custom
- One clear choice: for each project, decide whether it follows the workspace status list or has its own custom list.
- Preview before applying: when you change this choice, you see before saving which new status each status maps to, and no task is left without a status.
Guide: Statuses and workflow.
Mind maps: paste as a child
Previously, pasting with Ctrl+V always placed the new node as a sibling of the selected node. Now you can turn on Paste as child from the toolbar menu so the content goes under the selected node. This choice is remembered in your browser. Guide: Build mind maps with the keyboard.
The bot reads regular messages in Mattermost and Discord
- Direct messages: in a private chat with the bot, just write a regular message; you no longer have to use a slash command.
- In channels: the bot only replies when you mention its name at the start of the message, unless an admin has chosen the reply-to-all-messages mode.
- Mattermost buttons: an error that sometimes appeared after pressing buttons has been fixed.
Guide: Messaging bots.
Support tickets close automatically
A ticket that support has answered and that has had no new message for three days is closed automatically, and you're notified. If the issue is still open, reply before that period ends or file a new ticket.
Desktop app: the full Taskie panel
Alongside the quick add window, the desktop app now also opens the full Taskie workspace in the same app, so you don't need to go back to the browser for daily work. Guide: The Taskie desktop app.
Fixes in this release
- Tables in documents: tables follow the document's text direction; column order, moving with Tab and resizing columns now work correctly in right-to-left text.
- Mentions with @: the people list now also appears when the task was opened from search, notifications or the All tasks page.
- Mention notifications: mentions in task descriptions and in edited comments now send notifications too.
- Names of deleted projects: after you delete a project, you can create a new project with the same name.
- Browser notifications on iOS: instead of a vague "Not supported" message, the steps for adding Taskie to the Home Screen are shown.
A short list of the changes is also on the version 2.8.0 changelog page.
