What's new in 2.7.0
Version 2.7.0 introduces the Taskie desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux, brings online meeting rooms to tasks, adds task description history and gives you finer access control over forms and channels.
The biggest news in 2.7.0 is that Taskie has stepped outside the browser: the desktop app is out for Mac, Windows and Linux, and with a global shortcut you can capture a task from inside any app. Alongside it, online meeting rooms sit on tasks, task descriptions get history and comparison, Google Drive and Dropbox files attach without uploading, video and design links play inside the editor, forms and channels get finer access control, and Slack and Discord join the messaging bots.
Note: Some features depend on your workspace plan or admin settings. If you don't see an option, ask your workspace admin to check the related permission and plan.
The Taskie desktop app
A small app that sits in your system tray and does one thing: capture a task quickly, without leaving what you're working on.
- Global shortcut: with one key combination (Ctrl+Alt+Space by default, Cmd+Alt+Space on Mac) a small window opens from any app. Type one line, press Enter, and the window closes.
- The same familiar syntax:
@for project,#for label,!for priority, and dates such as "tomorrow at 5pm" are recognized right in the same line, with autocomplete. - Works offline too: if the network is down, what you typed waits in a queue on that device and is sent exactly once as soon as you're back online. Nothing is ever deleted on its own.
- Secure sign-in: you sign in through your default browser, so two-factor authentication and enterprise sign-in work too, and the access token is stored in the operating system's keychain.
- Automatic updates: new versions let you know they're available and install in one click.
Get the app from the download page. The full guide to installing, signing in, shortcuts and settings is in The Taskie desktop app.
Connected devices
Now that apps installed on your phone and computer stay signed in to your account, a new settings page shows all of them in one place: the device type, app version, last time used and last network address. Revoke access for each device separately or for all of them at once. Details are in Connected devices.
Online meeting rooms on tasks
- Three services: Jitsi works from day one without any account; Zoom and Google Meet work by connecting your own account.
- Automatic announcements: with a new automation action, creating a room and announcing it in the project channel happen automatically.
- In the calendar too: the meeting link is saved as the location of the calendar event, so you can join from a phone notification as well.
The full guide is in Online meeting rooms on tasks (Pro plan and above).
Task descriptions: history, comparison and smoother editing
- Version history: every change to a task description keeps the previous version; you can compare the differences in color and restore any version. Seven days on the Free plan and unlimited on paid plans.
- Always ready to type: you no longer need to click the text to edit and wait for the page to shift; the cursor lands exactly where you aimed.
Details are in Task description history and comparison.
Manage time from the task itself
The time panel on a task now has two tabs: manual entry, and a list of logged time entries where you can delete any row. On mobile, the same panel opens as a sheet from the bottom. The time total also updates as soon as you stop the timer. The project timesheet now opens tasks in the details window and lets you expand and collapse each task's rows. Guide: Manage time entries.
Attach files from Google Drive and Dropbox
Attach cloud files to a task, document, channel message or comment without downloading and uploading them again. The file stays in its service, the latest version always opens, and none of your workspace's storage is used. You pick files with Taskie's own file browser, which fully supports right-to-left languages. Guide: Attach files from Google Drive and Dropbox.
Play video and media inside the editor
Paste a YouTube, Aparat, Vimeo, Loom, Figma, Miro, Excalidraw, Google Docs, Spotify, SoundCloud, CodePen, CodeSandbox or GitHub Gist URL on its own line, and a player or preview is shown instead of a bare link. Media only loads when you click it, so the document stays light. Guide: Play video and media in documents and tasks.
Access control for forms and channels
- Private forms: choose one of five access modes for each form: public, workspace members, project members, a specific list, or a shared password. In forms that require sign-in, the one-response-per-person limit is truly enforced per user account. (Business plan and above)
- Channel posting limits: create a channel where only admins or selected people can post and everyone else can only read; thread replies, reactions and converting a message to a task stay open to everyone. (Business Plus plan)
Guides: Private forms and access control and Limit who can post in a channel.
Slack and Discord join the bots
- Slack: slash commands, buttons, step-by-step dialogs and an App Home tab with a summary of your work for today.
- Discord: slash commands, buttons and forms, plus asking the AI assistant. The bot doesn't read regular channel messages.
- Discord feed: separately from the bot, you can publish project events to a Discord channel with a webhook.
Guide: The Taskie bot in Slack and Discord.
Quick sign-in from Telegram
- Mini App: open Taskie inside the messenger itself and, if your account is linked, sign in without a password.
- Sign up with your number: create an account with the phone number the messenger has verified; if that number already has an account, an SMS code is verified first for security.
- A shorter menu: instead of a long list, /start shows a swipeable card with the six most-used commands.
Guide: Sign in and sign up from Telegram.
Mind maps with the keyboard
Create a child branch with Tab and a sibling with Enter, duplicate with Ctrl+D and see the shortcut guide with ?. Copying a node puts all its branches on the system clipboard as a text outline, and pasting a nested list from elsewhere builds the same structure on the canvas. Guide: Build mind maps with the keyboard.
Fixes in this release
- Deleting a project: when you delete a project, its tasks are set aside too and no longer appear in the dashboard and widgets. If you restore the project, those tasks come back.
- Bot lists: done and closed tasks no longer appear in the bot's lists.
- Dates in the bot: dates you send to the bot are now read in your calendar system and saved correctly, whichever digits you type them in.
- My day in the bot: instead of a manual list, it starts with the tasks actually due today, followed by overdue tasks and the week ahead.
- Signing in from the Telegram Mini App: an error that prevented sign-in has been fixed.
- Time total: it updates as soon as you stop the timer.
- Trial banner on mobile: it no longer covers the page content.
